HI! Welcome to Paws for Thought Counselling I am Karen and I will be your mental health counsellor, Tilly says woof too.
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers and Medicare, I graduated from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Criminology and Master of Social work.
I have had a long and varied career in working with mental health, such as working as a youth worker with Father Chris Riley and Youth of the Streets, and various NGOs, the Tamworth Youth and public health system in Tamworth.
I have spent much of my social working career working with young people, in various roles and this is the happiest part of my job, watching young people grow and blossom into themselves. I am an experienced Sexual Assault Counsellor, and I can provide services through Victim Services.
I am passionate about providing grief and loss and trauma counselling and helping clients overcome depression and anxiety. I have training in:
TIlly and I are bringing our holistic, client centred approach to Mental Health Counselling. We prefer to provide counselling out in nature as nature is a great assistant in healing the heart and mind at a local park or walk and talk, and we have an office for those who prefer to sit and chat...
I am a certified Animal Assisted therapist through Lead the Way and Therapy Dogs Australia. My love of training dogs led me to obtain my certificate III in dog training and behaviour and I am the owner and head trainer of Therapy Dogs NSW a training school for therapy, service and assistance dogs.
Therapeutic supports involve counselling and other wellbeing supports to help make your life more fulfilled. The sessions can be talk therapy, mindfulness sessions with Tilly, art therapy, these sessions can look however you need them to look to help you reach your NDIS goals.

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Mindfulness teaches us to live in the moment and what better way to learn that than from our canine friends, masters of living in the now. A mindfulness session will be a little different from normal counselling as you will focus on being in the now with Rosie and Tilly, you will become part of the pack for an hour running, playing and training the dogs – getting back to the basics just like when you were younger and naturally lived in the NOW. The session is great for people with anxiety and depression – but not dog phobia, though great for desensitisation work! – to learn how to Acknowledge, Accept and Address anxiety. We have an initial session where we work out your goals and subsequent sessions are tailed to help you meet your goals and enjoy doing it.
